OTTAWA, September 4, 2008 - Canada's Environment Minister, John Baird, announced today that the upgrading of the Elora Well System project in Ontario is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. The Minister has referred the project back to the responsible authority, Industry Canada, for appropriate action.
The Minister based his decision on the comprehensive study report, including the conclusions and recommendations, submitted by Industry Canada; the results of a public comment period and the responsible authority's responses to these comments; and the implementation of the proposed mitigation measures and a follow-up program.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
