BRUDERHEIM, Alberta, August 30, 2008 - Bruderheim-area residents and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in the Bruderheim Centennial Celebration, thanks to an investment from the Government of Canada.
Leon Benoit, Member of Parliament (Vegrevelle -Wainwright), on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Bruderheim Lions Club.
Funding of $10,000 will be used by the Club to celebrate the centennial of the community of Bruderheim from August 29 to 31, 2008. Various activities are planned, including a parade, guided tours, a pancake breakfast, chuckwagon races, musical entertainment, and other activities for all ages.
"Our Government is pleased to support the Bruderheim Centennial Celebration," said Minister Verner. "We are proud to partner with communities, like Bruderheim and others, to support activities that celebrate local history, arts, and heritage."
"Local festivals like this one bring people of all ages together and allow them to experience their history," said Mr. Benoit. "I am proud that our Government is supporting activities that strengthen our shared sense of heritage."
"We are very pleased to receive this support towards the Celebration of Bruderheim's Centennial," said Fred Hawryluk, Bruderheim Lions Club President and Chair of the Bruderheim Centennial Committee. "The funding allows us to help showcase the history of the Town of Bruderheim for the current citizens and the ones returning to Bruderheim from past eras."
The Government of Canada has provided this funding through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program, announced in September 2007, provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
Applications for funding for festivals to be held between January 1 and August 31, 2009, and for community historical anniversaries between January 1 and December 31, 2009, must be received by September 1, 2008.
