EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick, September 5, 2008 - The Salon du livre d'Edmundston will continue to promote Canadian writers, as well as the French language and culture, thanks to support from the Government of Canada.
Senator G Gerald J. Comeau, on behalf of the Honourable Josée Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women and Minister for La Francophonie, today announced funding for the Salon du livre d'Edmundston.
Funding of $20,450 will help o rganizers of the spring 2009 event offer a number of different promotional activities for Canadian writers. Book lovers will be able to attend activities such as meet-and-greets, conferences, roundtables, lectures, and interviews.
"Our G overnment is pleased to support this book fair, which is part of our commitment to ensure that Canadians have access to books by Canadian authors," said Minister Verner. "The Salon du livre d'Edmundston is a not-to-be-missed literary event in Ne w Brunswick. It offers writers from the region and across Canada an excellent opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity to audiences looking to make new discoveries."

The Go vernment of Canada has provided this funding under the Collective Initiatives component of the Book Publishing Industry Development Program. This program of the Department of Canadian Heritage seeks to increase the capacity of the Canadian-owned and -cont rolled sector of the industry to publish and market Canadian books, domestically as well as internationally.
