OTTAWA (September 6, 2008) – The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, today announced the reappointment of Thomas Kabloon na to the Nunavut Water Board.
"Mr. Kabloona has been a valued member of the Nunavut Water Board since 1999," said Minister Strahl. "We look forward to his continued contributions to the Board."
Mr. Kabloona is a form er hamlet councillor and a past board member of the Hunters and Trappers' Association. He is actively engaged in activities on the land including year round hunting and fishing. He began his career with the Water Survey of Canada in 1967. Mr. Kabloona is the President of Tuuapak Enterprises Ltd. in Baker Lake and has acted as the Chairperson for the Nunavut Water Board.
The Nunavut Water Board has responsibilities and powers over the regulation, use and management of water in the Nunavut Settlement Ar ea. The Board contributes fully to the development of land use plans as they concern water in the Nunavut Settlement Area by providing its recommendations to the Nunavut Planning Commission. The Board was established as a result Article 13 of the Nunavut Land Claims Agreement.
