The Department of Canadian Heritage today refuted the statement published in the October 1, 2008, edition of Le Devoir that indicated that the Canada New Media Fund (CNMF) would be discontinued. Funding to continue the program was renewed in June 2007 for a period of two years, that is, until March 31, 2009. No decision has been made to eliminate the CNMF.
The Department intends to continue to support this sector in the most efficient way possible, recognizing that the new media sector is subject to ongoing, rapid technological changes.
