Biographical Note
Wendell J. Sanford (BA [Political Science], St. Mary’s University; BEd [Secondary Education], St. Mary’s University; LLB [International Law], Dalhousie University; MPP, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand) joined the Department of External Affairs in 1978. He was posted to Bangkok as consular and political officer, and later to Boston as trade commissioner. Subsequently, he went on exchange with the Government of Nova Scotia as director, Office of Nova Scotia in New England. Mr. Sanford has held various positions in his career, such as deputy coordinator, Office of the Ambassador for Fisheries Conservation; sponsorship coordinator for the Halifax G8 Summit; senior analyst, International Economic Relations Division; senior analyst, New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade; deputy director, Program Analysis; PERPA program manager in Los Angeles; and deputy director, Oceans Law. He was most recently director, Oceans and Environmental Law. Mr. Sanford succeeds Léopold Battel.
