No. A/59
Senator Raynell Andreychuk is leading a trade mission to Tripoli, Libya, from October 27 to 30 to strengthen commercial ties between Canada and Libya. The trip is an opportunity for companies from Canada's oil and gas sector to share their expertise in the field with Libyans and to introduce Canadian products and technologies to the Libyan market.
While in Tripoli, Senator Andreychuk will attend a range of meetings to discuss issues related to political and economic relations between Canada and Libya.
Canada's commercial relations with Libya were normalized in 1999. Libya is a dynamic market with many opportunities for Canadian exporters of goods and services, especially in energy, infrastructure and information communications technology. In 2007, Canadian merchandise exports to Libya reached $195 million. There is also significant Canadian investment in Libya, in areas including the oil and gas sector.
