(LIMA, PERU) – November 21 – Export Development Canada (EDC) today announced the signing of a cooperative agreement with the Private Investment Promotion Agency of Peru (Proinversion) to exchange information about mutually beneficial business opportunities.
The agreement, was signed by Sherry Noble, Senior Vice-President, Business Solutions and Technology, EDC and Mr. Luis Carlos Rodríguez, Executive Director of Proinversion during a ceremony at the Auditorium of the National Museum in Lima, Peru.
'Canadian trade with Peru continues to grow and diversify, and today's agreement will help broaden and strengthen the commercial relationship between our two countries,' said Ms. Noble. 'EDC alone supports sales to almost 200 Peruvian companies with a strong concentration in the mining sector. Canada is very well established in the Peruvian mining sector both as an investor as well as a supplier of equipment and services.'
'The cooperation between our institutions will be beneficial to impel the bilateral investment and trade,' said Mr. Rodríguez.
The agreement between EDC and Proinversion will help develop awareness among entrepreneurs from both countries about Canadian business opportunities in Peru, and foster the exchange of information about the Peruvian market and potential business partners in both countries.
EDC's business volume in Peru has grown from CAD 381 million in 2004 to CAD 537 million in 2007. Two-way trade between Canada and Peru increased in 2007, reaching CAD 2.5 billion from 2.4 in 2006. Canadian investment in Peru was valued at CAD 1.8 billion in 2007.
