GATINEAU QUEBEC , November 11, 2008 – Public Works and Government Services Canada wishes to advise all motorists that the Rapides-des-Joachims Bridge, connecting Rolphton, Ontario, and Rapides-des-Joachims, Quebec, will be closed to vehicular traffic intermittently from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. beginning on Wednesday, November 12, until Friday, November 14.
The bridge needs to be closed in order for workers to carry out a detailed inspection. To minimize inconvenience to motorists, workers will alternate between closing the bridge for approximately 20 minutes at a time, and then opening it to allow traffic to pass through before closing it again to continue the inspection.
There will be flag personnel at each approach to the bridge to notify motorists when the bridge will be reopened.
This bridge inspection is part of a regularly scheduled maintenance program and is carried out to ensure the integrity and continued safety of the bridge.
In case of severe weather, the inspection will be temporarily suspended.
Public Works and Government Services Canada apologizes for any inconvenience this intermittent bridge closure may cause.
