November 27, 2008
Ottawa – The Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, today issued the following statement on reaching a tentative settlement with the Canadian Association of Professional Employees (CAPE) for the Economics and Social Science Services (EC) group.
"I am very pleased that together the Canadian Association of Professional Employees and the Government of Canada have reached another fair and reasonable agreement that is in line with our final offer of November 18, 2008. This settlement is another example of a responsible outcome in public sector compensation.
This settlement is fair to employees and affordable for Canadians.
The four-year agreement includes wage increases of 2.3% in 2007-08, 1.5% in 2008-09, 1.5% in 2009-10 and 1.5% in 2010-11.
I would like to thank our negotiators as well as those of the Canadian Association of Professional Employees, who have worked diligently to reach this agreement. This fair and reasonable settlement will serve Canada well as we face uncertain economic times."
