Ottawa, November 24, 2008
By the Honourable James Moore
Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages
Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
These awards, first handed out in 2005, reward excellence in folk music and highlight the important place that this genre occupies in our cultural heritage. The 19 artists and groups that won awards, as well as all those who were nominated, demonstrate the extent to which our musical scene is bursting with talent and creativity. There is no doubt that folk music is a wonderful source of pride for all Canadians.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank the organizers of the 4th Canadian Folk Music Awards Gala. Thanks to your efforts, folk music and the people who make it are receiving the honours they deserve.
