New brochure offers helpful tips
OTTAWA — Transport Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Automobile Association (CAA), today released a timely brochure listing the top 10 winter driving safety tips. The goal is to help Canadian motorists prevent problems before they occur.
"One of this government's top priorities is to keep Canadians as safe as possible," said John Baird, Canada's Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities. "Transport Canada - with the help of partners like the CAA - is working to make our roads the safest in the world by reducing deaths and injuries."
The brochure, called You, Your Vehicle and Winter Driving, is a handy guide that includes information about how Canadians can make their vehicles winter-ready, how to prepare for and drive in bad weather, and what to pack in a winter survival kit.
"With winter quickly approaching, the safety of our 5.3 million members and all Canadians is a concern," said Tim Shearman, president of the CAA. "Whether it be a holiday road trip, the daily commute to work, or driving kids to music lessons or hockey, the CAA encourages motorists to be prepared this winter driving season. Plan ahead and drive defensively."
The brochure is available on Transport Canada's website (www.tc.gc.ca) and on the CAA's website (www.caa.ca/publicaffairs). Printed copies are also available from the CAA on request.
