WHISTLER, British Columbia, November 22, 2008 - On behalf of the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), John Weston, Member of Parliament (West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country), jointly cut the ribbon for Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Park with Host First Nations and Provincial representatives. The Park is an important competition venue for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Park will leave a community and sport legacy in the Whistler region for years to come and promote active living as part of a healthy lifestyle. During the Olympics, it will host cross-country skiing, biathlon, and ski jumping events.
"Today's opening marks yet another milestone on our road to Canada's Games," said Mr. Weston. "Whistler Olympic and Paralympic Park will not only be a showcase venue in 2010 but will also become a lasting multi-sport community legacy for years to come."
