No. 241
The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will be in Washington, D.C., on December 12, 2008, to meet with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
"Our two nations have a long history of successful collaboration and mutual support." said Minister Cannon. "In the context of the economic uncertainty, it is more important than ever to work together. Given our shared interests and the many strong working relationships between our governments and industries, it is vital for the region's future prosperity and competitiveness that we continue to face challenges together."
Minister Cannon and Secretary Rice will discuss bilateral and global issues of shared interest.
The visit to Washington is also an opportunity for the Minister to wish a formal farewell to his counterpart in the departing Bush administration.
"The Government of Canada looks forward to continuing our work with the U.S. in the weeks and months ahead in such areas as the economy, the environment and international security. We are confident that our partnership will remain strong and forward-looking," Minister Cannon added.
