HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, December 18, 2008- The Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development, today met with key stakeholders and members of the community to discuss issues surrounding Canada's response to the current economy. In particular, participants identified some potential opportunities that could be considered for early implementation.
Minister Finley also met with Minister Mark Parent, Minister of Labour and Workforce Development of Nova Scotia, Minister Richard Brown, Minister of Innovation and Advanced Learning for Prince Edward Island and Minister Donald Arseneault, Minister of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour for New Brunswick.
"The Government is currently taking stock, assessing the challenges and developing a course of action to effectively respond to the current situation. One of the best ways to find out what Canadians want and what their priorities are is to listen to them," said Minister Finley. "I am very pleased to have this opportunity to meet with people to help shape priorities and Canada's economic and social well-being."
The Government of Canada saw the challenges ahead and has already taken decisive action to ensure Canada successfully manages this crisis. On January 27th, a Budget will be brought in containing additional measures to boost Canada's economy. In preparation for that Budget, the Government is consulting widely with Canadians, meeting with provinces and territories and working in collaboration with international partners.
