OTTAWA-GATINEAU -Today, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission announced that it will review the scope of the licence renewal hearings for the private conventional television stations to determine how the focus can be significantly narrowed or reduced. The public hearings are scheduled for April 2009.
This review is being conducted in light of the concerns raised by conventional broadcasters about the challenges of the broadcasting environment, as well as the current economic climate.
The Commission will meet next month to discuss the issue. The results of this review will be made public on February 16, 2009.
The CRTC is an independent public authority that regulates and supervises broadcasting and telecommunications in Canada.
