OTTAWA, ONTARIO, January 23, 2009—The Honourable Rona Ambrose, Minister of Labour, today announced the appointment of Ms. Glennis Bihun as Governor representing Saskatchewan on the Council of Governors of the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Board (CCOHS), effective immediately.
“Ms. Bihun has a great deal of experience in the field of occupational health and safety,” said Minister Ambrose. “Her combined experience and practical knowledge should prove to be an asset to the Centre.”
Ms. Bihun has gained extensive experience in occupational health and safety. From 2002 to 2005, she worked as a manager of OHS Partnerships and Strategic Programs within the Occupation Health and Safety Division. She also held the position of acting executive director, from 2005 to 2008, and later became executive director.
Ms. Bihun worked as a supervisor for the Wood Processing Department at the Sherwood Credit Union from 1987 to 1990, and then as a financial training administrator for the Credit Union Central of Saskatchewan. She also held the position of OHS Researcher and Administrator for the Saskatchewan Association of Health Organizations for five consecutive years.
The internationally known CCOHS, located in Hamilton, Ontario, was created in 1978 to promote the fundamental right of Canadians to a healthy and safe working environment. Governed by a tripartite council representing the federal, provincial and territorial governments, employers and workers, the Centre provides Canadians with unbiased and relevant information that supports responsible decision-making on health and safety issues in the workplace.
