Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the appointment of Ms. Frances Lankin as a member of the Security Intelligence Review Committee (SIRC).
Ms. Lankin, from Toronto, Ontario, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of United Way Toronto, a position she has held since 2001.
In accordance with the requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service Act, Ms. Lankin was sworn into the Queen’s Privy Council of Canada.
Established in 1984, SIRC provides an external review of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service’s performance of its duties and functions and examines complaints by individuals or reports by ministers relating to security clearances and the national security of Canada.
This appointment is effective January 22, 2009.
