THUNDER BAY, Ontario, February 19, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Tony Clement, Minster of Industry and Minister responsible for FedNor, today announced funding for the Community Arts and Heritage Education Project. This funding will be used for the 6th annual Arts Fiesta, which will take place from February 19 to March 13, 2009, in locations throughout the Thunder Bay area.
"Our Government recognizes the importance of arts, culture, and heritage, and has devoted more than half a billion dollars to it in Budget 2009," said Minister Moore. "We know how essential they are to our communities, our identity, and our economy."
"Arts Fiesta brings people of all ages and backgrounds together and foster the creativity of children in our community," said Minister Clement. "By supporting Arts Fiesta, our Government recognizes the importance of this event for the Thunder Bay community."
"The funding from the Government of Canada for the CAHEP Arts Fiesta has helped the Community Arts and Heritage Education Project reach a wider audience, engage more volunteers, and professionally display the visual artwork of 265 children," said Lila Cano, Community Arts and Heritage Education Project Coordinator.
Funding of $5,800 is provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage (BCAH) program of the Department of Canadian Heritage, which provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in local activities that present arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program will benefit many community events and historic anniversaries in Canada this year.
