The Government of Canada Supports the Perth-Andover Winter Carnival

PERTH-ANDOVER, New Brunswick, February 9, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Mike Allen, Member of Parliament (Tobique-Mactaquac), today announced funding for the Perth-Andover Winter Carnival.

The funds will help the Perth-Andover Recreation Commission organize this annual event and promote activities, including performances featuring local artists, a snow sculpture demonstration, a seniors breakfast, and a ski and snowshoe night. This winter event, which will take place from February 8 to February 22, will allow residents and visitors alike to enjoy the scenic views and quality of life the village has to offer.

"The Government of Canada is pleased to support the Perth-Andover Winter Carnival under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program," said Minister Moore. "We are proud to partner with communities to support activities that contribute to their local economy."

"Celebrations like this one bring people of all ages and backgrounds together and contribute to building stronger communities," said Mr. Allen. "I am proud that our Government is supporting such an important event that increases community pride."

Funding of $2,700 is being provided through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program. The program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in events and activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage. This program benefits many community events and anniversaries throughout Canada
