MONTRÉAL, February 27, 2009 - A number of organizations in the fields of arts, culture, and official languages will receive funding from the Government of Canada to foster the advancement of the arts and cultural industries, provide Canadians with the opportunity to participate in events celebrating the history and heritage of specific regions, and highlight Canada's linguistic duality.
On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, today announced funding for various arts, culture, and official languages organizations in Quebec. Minister Paradis made this announcement during his visit to
Les Productions Loma inc., in Montréal.
"We are investing directly in our communities, artists, and cultural industries," said Minister Moore. "Our actions speak volumes and give organizations a chance to highlight the excellence and cultural vitality of our country. They make it possible for Canadians to enjoy a wide range of cultural experiences, and they promote a better understanding of our linguistic duality."

The organizations will share a total of $481,104 allocated by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the following programs:
- The Arts Presentation Canada Program offers Canadians direct access to various artistic experiences by providing financial assistance to arts presenters.
- The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program fosters the participation of Canadians in community life and funds activities that celebrate events, historical anniversaries, and heritage of a region.
- The Enhancement of Official Languages Program promotes a better understanding and appreciation of the benefits of linguistic duality.
- The Book Publishing Industry Development Program aims to ensure access to a diverse range of Canadian-authored books and to help the Canadian book industry adopt innovative technologies.

Funding of $77,150 in 2008-2009 for the development of a digital platform capable of hosting the digital content of books and making it accessible in various formats for promotional and sales purposes.

Funding of $24,000 for its 2009-2010 season, featuring around 50 professional performances from a variety of disciplines, including theatre, music, song, dance, comedy, and variety shows.
Oboro Goboro, Montréal, Quebec
Funding of $45,000 for its 2009-2010 season of activities including 30 multidisciplinary shows and interactive performances, as well as residency and awareness-raising activities.
Les Productions Loma inc., Montréal, Quebec
Funding of $75,000 in 2009-2010 for the presentation of the annual series Danse Danse , featuring 8 shows and 91 performances. Three of the shows are by foreign artists (from Belgium, the United States, and Great Britain) and five are by artists from Quebec and other Canadian provinces.
Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, Montréal, Quebec
Funding of $123,000 in 2008-2009 for the presentation of the Festival Montréal/Nouvelles musiques, dedicated to contemporary concert music. This 4 th edition will feature more than 20 concerts from 50 composers and performed by 20 ensembles, 18 conductors, 15 soloists, and more than 1600 professional and emerging musicians from Canada and abroad.
ASSISTANCE PROVIDED THROUGH THE BUILDING COMMUNITIES THROUGH ARTS AND HERITAGE PROGRAM
Festival Saint-Côme en glace, Saint-Côme, Quebec
Funding of $15,300 to present the 2008-2009 festival, with the focus on the creation and exhibition of 60 ice sculptures made by volunteer craftspeople from the village and performances by local artists.
Festival culturel ibéro-latino-américain de Montréal, Montréal, Quebec
Funding of $38,400 in 2008-2009 for the 13 th Festivalissimo Montréal Latino, which features cultural programming that provides interesting opportunities for 212 artists from the region and promotes community involvement.
O.T.J. Saint-Bernard inc., Saint-Bernard-de-Michaudville, Quebec
Funding of $3,800 in 2008-2009 for the Festival de musique traditionnelle de St-Bernard-de-Michaudville, which brings together 40 local artists, including traditional musicians and singers, and promotes greater community participation.

Funding of $34,147 in 2008-2009 and 2009-2010 for the Fêtes du 150 e de la municipalité de Saint-Onésime-d'Ixworth to commemorate the 150 th anniversary of the municipality with celebrations featuring 47 local artists, artisans, and performers.

Funding of $17,000 for the 2008-2009 edition of this local winter arts festival featuring more than 90 local artists, including ice sculptors, singers, and musicians.
