OTTAWA-Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will participate in the "Flight of the Silver Dart: Centennial Celebration" activities on Monday, February 23, 2009, starting at 11 a.m., in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
The Governor General will witness several flypasts and air demonstrations, all culminating in the recreation of the first controlled powered flight in Canada in 1909 by the AEA Silver Dart. The original Silver Dart was designed and built by the Aerial Experiment Association (AEA), formed under the guidance of Dr. Alexander Graham Bell.
Her Excellency will offer remarks during the celebrations. She will also attend the Canadian Centennial of Flight Musical Celebration the same day at 2:30 p.m. at the Baddeck Academy in Baddeck, Nova Scotia.
