OTTAWA – February 4, 2009 – The Joint Review Panel (the Panel) for the Bruce Power New Nuclear Power Plant Project today requested, from the proponent, Bruce Power Inc., additional information concerning the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site.
The six-month public comment period that was initially anticipated to end in early May 2009, will be extended as a result of this request by the Panel. A new timeline that specifies the revised end of the public comment period will be issued according to the amount of time required for the proponent to respond to the Panel’s request for additional information. Consequently, Canadians will have a longer time period to review and comment on the proponent’s EIS and the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site.
Any additional information submitted by the proponent will be made available on the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, reference number 07-05-25738. The new deadline for the public comment period will be announced when the requested information is received by the Panel. The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission will continue to update the Bruce Power Project milestones on its Web site.
The public may continue to submit written comments on the EIS and the Application for a Licence to Prepare a Site to the address below. Please forward written comments by mail, e-mail or fax to the attention of:
