OTTAWA, February 17, 2009 - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Frederick R. MacGillivray to the National Arts Centre (NAC) Board of Trustees.
"Mr. MacGillivray will bring his management skills and understanding of the community environment to the National Arts Centre," said Minister Moore. "I am certain that the NAC Board of Trustees will enjoy the full benefit of his experience."
For the past 15 years, Mr. MacGillivray has been Chief Executive Officer of the Trade Centre Limited, a provincial Crown corporation that manages a number of centres supporting the Nova Scotia business, tourism, and entertainment industries. He has also held management and executive positions for companies such as Dominion Stores Ltd., Lumsden Brothers Ltd., and Bolands/IGA.
Mr. MacGillivray is recognized for his community involvement and has been on the board of directors of many organizations, including the 2008 World Ice Hockey Championship, Events Halifax, the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, and Destination Halifax. Named one of the 50 top CEOs in Atlantic Canada four times, he has an honorary diploma from Nova Scotia Community College and an honorary doctorate in law from St. Thomas University.
The National Arts Centre Corporation is a federal cultural organization dedicated to expanding and presenting the performing arts in the National Capital Region and elsewhere in Canada. The NAC is home to the renowned National Arts Centre Orchestra. This multidisciplinary performing arts centre presents classical music, dance, French theatre, English theatre, variety shows, and regional programming, as well as working with other organizations in co-productions across Canada.
