OTTAWA, March 13, 2009 — The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Industry and Minister responsible for the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), today reappointed Dr. Elizabeth Cannon to the CFI's Board of Directors.
“I am very pleased to reappoint Dr. Cannon to the CFI board, and I appreciate all of her work as a board member over the last few years,”said Minister Clement. “Her insight and experience will continue to be very valuable in helping guide the CFI over the next three years.”
Dr. Cannon has been the dean of the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary since 2006. She has also served as a director on over eight industry advisory boards and held a membership on over 13 government advisory boards, including the Alberta Ingenuity Fund Board of Trustees, the Alberta Research Council Board of Directors, the Calgary Science Centre Board of Directors and the Minister of Natural Resources' National Advisory Board on Earth Sciences.
Dr. Cannon holds a Ph.D. (1991) from the University of Calgary in the area of geomatics engineering.
The CFI is an independent corporation created by the Government of Canada to fund research infrastructure. The CFI's mandate is to strengthen the capacity of Canadian universities, colleges, research hospitals and not-for-profit research institutions to carry out world-class research and technology development that benefits Canadians.
