For immediate release
GATINEAU, Quebec, March 31, 2009 – The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, together with the Honourable Peter Van Loan, Minister of Public Safety, today announced the release of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) E Division Headquarters Relocation Project in British Columbia.
“Canada has some of the most dynamic and competitive businesses in the world and we are very pleased with the high calibre of proponents participating in the RFP process,” said Minister Paradis. “The release of this RFP not only marks a milestone for a very important project, but also reaffirms the Government’s commitment to working with the private sector to strengthen our economy in the face of global economic turmoil.”
The RFP will be open to the following consortia that were short listed as a result of a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process in 2008:
- Cascadia
- Integrated Team Solutions
- Green Timbers Accommodation Partners
“The project demonstrates our Government’s on-going efforts to ensure RCMP have the resources they need to keep our communities safe,” said Minister Van Loan. “Combating crime is a priority for our Government and the RCMP plays a critical role in that fight.”
Public Works and Government Services Canada and the RCMP are working together to deliver a new regional headquarters facility for E Division. Located in Surrey, British Columbia, the new purpose-built facility will provide office and purpose built accommodation for E Division personnel. The proponent selected through the RFP process will design, build, finance and maintain the facility.
With this project, the Government of Canada will also continue to be a leader in the promotion of environmental building standards by ensuring that this facility meets LEED® Canada Gold certification. Buildings with LEED® certification demonstrate sustainable design, construction and operational practices, and are noted for their reduced carbon footprint.
