LIVERPOOL, Nova Scotia, March 17, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Gerald Keddy, Member of Parliament (South Shore-St. Margaret's), today announced funding to support the creation of Canadian editorial content in two important magazines for rural communities in Eastern Canada: Rural Delivery and Atlantic Horse&Pony.
"The periodical industry is a key cultural sector in Canada, which is why our Government is helping Canadian publishers provide readers with a broad range of quality Canadian periodicals with our new Canada Periodical Fund," said Minister Moore. "In this way, they contribute to the vitality of our culture and economy."
"Canada's magazine-publishing industry is a powerful symbol of this country's creativity and innovative spirit and our Government wants to ensure that domestic magazines such as the ones published by DvL are available to Canadian readers," said Mr. Keddy. "I would like to commend DvL Publishing on the fine array of magazines that it publishes. Thanks to your commitment to rural living and excellence in publishing, people in Atlantic Canada have access to great magazines that reflect their heritage."

We appreciate that the Government of Canada recognizes those challenges and works with publishers to help strengthen rural culture." said Dirk van Loon of DvL Publishing Incorporated, publisher of the two magazines.
The Government of Canada has provided $45,108 in funding through the Support for Editorial Content component of the Canada Magazine Fund. The Government recently announced that it would maintain its support to Canadian magazines through the creation of the Canada Periodical Fund, a modern, streamlined program that will replace the Canada Magazine Fund and the Publications Assistance Program. This new fund, which will be launched in 2010-2011, will help magazines such as Rural Delivery and Atlantic Horse&Pony reflect Canadian voices and interests for years to come.
