OTTAWA — The Government of Canada today announced that Straight Crossing Development Ltd, operator of the Confederation Bridge, will improve their data collection capacity by installing a licence plate reader system.
Through a contribution of $100,000 from Transport Canada's Intelligent Transportation Systems initiative, this reader system will improve traffic safety and also improve the understanding of travel patterns between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
"Our government is proud to invest in projects which support road safety in Prince Edward Island," said Gail Shea, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans. "This investment will protect travellers on the road while improving the quality of life for Canadians."
Intelligent Transportation Systems assist in better integrating the country's transportation system. They include applications such as advanced systems for traveller information, traffic management, public transport, commercial vehicle operations, emergency response management and vehicle safety.
