GATINEAU, Quebec, April 30, 2009 – The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, today announced the awarding of Standing Offers and Supply Arrangements for Temporary Help Services to 125 qualified suppliers to meet the requirements of departments located in the National Capital Area (NCA).
“Canada’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are major players in the temporary help services industry and this is yet another concrete step our Government has taken to strengthen SMEs’ access to government procurement,” said Minister Paradis. “Close to 90 per cent of the qualified suppliers under the improved system are SMEs and this new method will ensure they continue to be key providers of these services to the federal government.”
“We are working with unprecedented speed to deliver the programs and services our country and our economy needs,” added Minister Paradis. “We are now able to act more quickly and achieve better value for taxpayers with immediate and direct access to a pool of qualified temporary personnel at competitive rates.”
PWGSC has consulted extensively with industry representatives and client departments on the development of the improved method of supply. As a result, five different streams of services for temporary help were created – office support, administrative services, operational services, technical services and professional services.
Temporary help firms supply the government with personnel when it needs to replace employees or increase capacity for a limited period of time. Small and medium enterprises are major players in the temporary help services industry, and close to 90 per cent of the qualified suppliers under the improved system are SMEs.
