LITTLE BROOK, NOVA SCOTIA - Greg Kerr, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and the Member of Parliament for West Nova, and the Honourable Chris D'Entremont, Nova Scotia Minister of Community Services and Acadian Affairs and the MLA for Argyle, today announced that the residents of Clare will benefit from the purchase of a new bus thanks to an investment from both the federal and provincial governments.
"Our Government is working with provincial partners to keep our economy moving, create new jobs and improve service to the community," said MP Kerr. "Investments like this new bus will help Canada emerge from this economic downturn with modern, eco-friendly public transit infrastructure that will act as the foundation of long-term, sustainable economic growth."
"The launching of this bus is just one of the many ways we are working with our federal and municipal partners to build a better, healthier environment for today and for our future," said Mr. D'Entremont.
The new bus will serve the community and will help support the close to 18,000 passenger trips that are logged each year by Le Transport de Clare. Le Transport de Clare Society received more than $62,000 from the federal Public Transit Capital Trust 2008, and $20,000 from Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations' Accessible Transportation Assistance Program (ATAP).
"Since 1996, we have become known for being a real part of our community. Through services like home care and our transportation services we can assist seniors to live longer in their homes and this is welcome funding for a great cause," said Claredon Robicheau, Founder and President of Le Transport de Clare Society.
Beyond today's announcement, the Government of Canada is taking important steps to support economic growth. Canada's Economic Action Plan, announced in Budget 2009, is a balanced stimulus plan that includes massive investments in infrastructure, tax relief and transfers. This plan will provide close to $12 billion in new infrastructure stimulus funding over two years, which will address needs in communities across Canada, as well as contributing to long-term economic growth through investments in public infrastructure, such as roads, water treatment, green energy and transit.
