Inversa Systems Ltd. is breaking new ground with the development of its unique imaging technology, supported by the Government of Canada. The announcement was made today by the Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency).
“The Government of Canada is committed to working with its partners to make strategic investments that will capitalize on opportunities for economic growth and innovation in our communities,” said Minister Ashfield. “Our investment of more than $670,000 through ACOA and the National Research Council of Canada Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) will help this company develop made-in-New Brunswick imaging technology that can be used by a wide range of industries to save time and money, both in Atlantic Canada and around the world.”
Inversa Systems Ltd. is developing a new generation of scatter imaging technology called Deep Backscatter Tomography (DBT). This technology allows the user to look into any object, whether composite, steel or concrete, and obtain an easy-to-interpret picture of what is inside. DBT, once commercialized, will allow industrial inspection in sectors such as petro chemical, power generation and civil infrastructure to quickly and economically detect anomalies in the structures that may lead to equipment failures and costly shutdowns of critical facilities.
“Thanks to the investments of ACOA and NRC, development of this imaging technology has progressed rapidly over the last six months. Our prototype is proving to be faster, lighter and more affordable to reproduce than we envisioned, which is likely to translate into even broader applications for this technology in the field,” said Mr. John Bowles, Vice-President of Inversa Systems Ltd. “We are also indebted to the support provided by the New Brunswick Innovation Foundation and our Saint John partner Technico Inc. and thankful for the expertise of our team of young professionals who have chosen to remain or come back to New Brunswick to work with us.”
Under its Business Development Program, ACOA is investing repayable assistance of $325,677 toward the development and commercialization of the imaging technology. NRC is providing $344,441 through its Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), which will also provide a range of both technical and business oriented advisory services.
