FREDERICTON, April 7, 2009 – The Honourable Keith Ashfield, Minister of State (Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency) on behalf of the Honourable Rob Nicholson, P.C., Q.C., M.P. for Niagara Falls, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced $13,289 in federal funding to the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick.
With this funding the Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick will develop and deliver a family violence public awareness campaign entitled "Safer Families...Safer Communities." The campaign will deal with subjects such as abuse, death by firearms, safety of people and animals.
"Our Government is committed to making our streets and communities safer," said Minister Ashfield. "Public Legal Education and Information activities provide Canadians with the legal information they need to make informed decisions and participate effectively in the justice system. These activities contribute to ensuring that Canada has an accessible and responsive justice system that meets the needs of its citizens."
Public Legal Education and Information Service of New Brunswick is a non-profit organization that develops a variety of bilingual educational products and services about the law for the public in order to promote access to the legal system.
The investment highlighted today falls under the Justice Partnership and Innovation Program, administered by the Department of Justice Canada, which supports activities that respond to the changing conditions affecting Canadian justice policy.
