The funding will support the Société de Criminologie du Québec in hosting its 34th congress from May 20-May 22, 2009. The congress will be an opportunity to discuss various issues related to justice and criminality.
"Our Government is committed to making our streets and communities safer," said Minister Paradis. "Through this contribution, we are assisting the Société de Criminologie du Québec in promoting best practices in all aspects of criminal law, thereby strengthening the criminal justice system and contributing to the safety and well-being of all Canadians."
The Société de criminologie du Québec is a non-profit organization that combines scientific research, professional practice and community action in learning about penal justice.
The investment highlighted today falls under the Justice Partnership and Innovation Program, administered by Department of Justice Canada, which supports activities that respond to the changing conditions affecting Canadian justice policy.
