Ottawa, April 9, 2009 — The Honourable Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, issued the following statement on Easter:
“Easter is of profound importance to Christians from every corner of the world. As one of the oldest Christian holidays, it honours and recognizes Jesus Christ's Resurrection from the dead, giving Christians hope for eternal life and the constant renewal of the world.
“Easter is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, as the seasons change from winter to spring.
“For all Canadians, Easter provides an opportunity to reflect on the tremendous contributions that Christians have made to this country”s rich and diverse heritage.
“We are very fortunate to live in a country that embraces the many faiths of the world and finds great strength in the coming together of diverse backgrounds.
“As Prime Minister Harper has said, ‘Pluralism is the principle that binds our diverse peoples together.”
“As Minister for Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, I extend sincere and warm wishes for a happy Easter season.”
