Gatineau, April 14, 2009 – The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and the Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister for the Atlantic Gateway, today announced that the Government of Canada has awarded a contract to Ottawa-based Calian Ltd. on behalf of the Department of National Defence (DND) for training and capability development support services for the Canadian Forces.
Calian Ltd. will provide resources to conduct planning, design, training and experimentation activities, as well as to operate and maintain various Canada-owned simulation systems used in support of these activities. The activities will be carried out at various simulation centres and sites across Canada and from time to time, in other countries.
"This government is committed to supporting the Canadian Forces and is determined to provide its men and women with the best training and equipment available to do their jobs," said Minister Paradis. "This contract is also going to help support local economies by maintaining high-technology jobs in Canada." As part of the five-year, $108 million contract, Calian Ltd. will be providing 61 full-time core resources and 400 part-time non-core resources to carry out the work primarily in Kingston, Valcartier, Petawawa, Gagetown, and Edmonton.
"This contract for simulation training provides the men and women of the Canadian Forces with an important tool to train in a wide range of environments as they prepare for current and future operations," added Minister MacKay. "Providing these services ensures that our forces have the best training available to help them perform their demanding tasks."
DND has an ongoing requirement for training and capability development support, which is essential in the planning and execution of Canadian Forces operations. The continuation of these services allows for training to be carried out in a cost-effective, environmentally sound, simulated environment.
