OTTAWA-Their Excellencies the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, and Mr. Jean-Daniel Lafond, will be hosting a public Art Matters forum on Monday, April 20, 2009, at 7 p.m., at the National Arts Centre's Le Salon in Ottawa.
In conjunction with BC Scene and in collaboration with the National Arts Centre, Their Excellencies will host a public Art Matters forum to explore the theme "How do the Arts sustain our communities?" Art Matters will bring together members of the public as well as panelists Robert Clark, Executive Chef, C Restaurant; David Diamond, Artistic Director, Headlines Theatre Company; Craig Holzschuh, General and Artistic Director, Théâtre la Seizième; Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas, writer and artist; Maiko Bae Yamamoto, Artistic Director, Theatre Replacement. The forum will be moderated by Hank Bull, Executive Director of Centre A Gallery in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside.

For every ceremony honouring the talents of Canadian artists, Rideau Hall-on His Excellency Jean-Daniel Lafond's initiative-organizes a forum called Art Matters. This event brings laureates, artists, academics and administrators together to discuss and examine the challenges facing culture in our society. More than 30 forums have already been held in Canada and abroad during official visits.
