Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced today the appointment of The Honourable Lori A. Douglas, a Judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba, Family Division, as Associate Chief Justice of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba, Family Division. She replaces the Honourable Associate Chief Justice G.W.J. Mercier of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Madam Justice Douglas received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Winnipeg in 1978 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Manitoba in 1982. She was called to the Manitoba Bar in 1983.
Madam Justice Douglas has been a Professor at the University of Manitoba Law School and at the Bar Admission Course. She was a partner with the firm of Thompson Dorfman Sweatman, where she practised primarily in family law. Madam Justice Douglas was appointed a Judge of Her Majesty’s Court of Queen’s Bench for Manitoba, Family Division on May 20, 2005.
This appointment is effective immediately.
