(MONTREAL) – May 27, 2009 – Export Development Canada (EDC) today announced the opening of an office in Ville Saint-Laurent to better serve the exporting community and its strategic partners clustered in the region.
"Saint-Laurent and Laval represent the two fastest growing industrial parks in the province, and through EDC's permanent presence there, we hope to be a financial catalyst developing these important hubs of commercial activity," said Diane Dubé, Regional Vice-president, Quebec.
EDC currently serves approximately 1,100 customers in this area, and will be looking to continue to grow that number in the coming years.
The new office will provide enhanced service to the regions of Saint-Laurent, West Island, Laval, the Laurentians, Abitibi and Lanaudière.
The most prominent sectors for EDC in the region are information and communications technology, light manufacturing, and aerospace. EDC has seen an increase in the amount of business undertaken with its existing customer base in these sectors, leading to the opening of the office.
The region also offers a strong presence on the part of EDC's commercial partners, including the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC), Investissement Québec, FTQ Pension Fund and many Canadian banks.
EDC is Canada's export credit agency, offering innovative commercial solutions to help Canadian exporters and investors expand their international business. EDC's knowledge and partnerships are used by more than 8,300 Canadian companies and their global customers in up to 200 markets worldwide each year. EDC is financially self-sustaining, a recognized leader in financial reporting and economic analysis, and has been recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers for eight consecutive years.
