Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, May 19, 2009 – The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of State for Canada Economic Development, today announced $500,000 in repayable funding to Lepage Millwork. This assistance will enable the firm to acquire specialized equipment for the manufacture of sealed glass units and thereby increase production capacity.
This manufacturer of high quality windows and doors crafts its products with various materials, but favours wood. Its clientele consists of a network of specialized Canadian and U.S. dealers well known to architects, real estate developers and builders. Lepage Millwork targets high-end markets and the heritage building renovation sector. Just over 40% of its output is exported to the United States.
“The company’s decision to embark on a project to enhance productivity and establish a strong presence in new markets will consolidate 235 existing jobs and ensure its competitiveness. Lepage Millwork has given itself the means to innovate, develop new markets and respond even more quickly to specific client requests. The Government of Canada, as stated in its latest budget, is committed to supporting promising projects that, like this one, contributes to the diversification as well as the economic growth of Rivière-du-Loup and the surrounding region. Our efforts to support the economy in this time of economic turmoil reflect that unwavering commitment,”explained the Minister of State.
Canada Economic Development has awarded this assistance through its Business and Regional Growth, Productivity Support program, an initiative aimed at strengthening conditions conducive to the sustainable growth of Quebec’s regions and small and medium-sized enterprises.
