For immediate release
Gatineau, Quebec, May 15, 2009 – The Government of Canada today launched a Web site to allow Canadians, particularly Quebecers, to participate online in the public consultations on the future of the Grande Allée Armoury that will take place from May 15 to June 15, 2009.
The purpose of the public consultations is to find a long-term solution for the use of the historic site and to develop a detailed plan for its future. An expert advisor is conducting the consultations and is supported by a federal advisory committee led by Public Works and Government Services Canada.
From May 15 to June 5, Canadians and citizens of Quebec City are invited to fill out a questionnaire on the consultation Web site at www.pwgsc.gc.ca/armoury. A paper copy of the questionnaire can be obtained by calling 1-866-346-1857. Once completed, questionnaires can be mailed (address listed below), faxed to 418-204-3848 or e-mailed to publicconsultation@managemilitaire.ca. The mailing address is the following: Public Consultations on the Future of the Grande Allée Armoury in Quebec City, National Public Relations, Station Haute-ville, PO Box 68, Quebec City, Quebec G1R 4M8.
Those who so wish can submit a concept proposal by e-mail, fax or mail. These proposals must respect the established parameters as indicated on the consultation Web site and be received before June 15. Proposals received after June 15 will not be accepted.
Those who wish to present their concept in person to the Advisory Committee must clearly indicate their desire to do so in their proposal document and ensure it is received by May 18 at the latest by e-mail or fax (see contact information above). They will also have to demonstrate in their proposal that it complies with the established parameters. Half-hour meetings will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the date and time that proposals requesting meetings are received.
Members of the public who so wish may attend as observers during the public sessions in which proposals will be presented. These sessions will be held on May 20 and 21, at the Loews Le Concorde Hotel, Jean-Paul Lemieux Room, 1225 Cours du Général-De Montcalm.
Canada’s Economic Action Plan has committed $2 million for public consultations on the armoury’s future. Through this investment, the government is actively creating jobs and stimulating the economy. More details on the Plan are available at http://www.actionplan.gc.ca/eng/.
