MONTRÉAL, May 26, 2009 - The Honourable Christian Paradis, Minister of Public Works and Government Services and Member of Parliament (Mégantic-L'Érable), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced funding for the 2009 MUTEK Festival. This funding will go toward the organization of the 10th edition of this event, which will take place in Montréal from May 27 to 31, 2009.
"Our Government is pleased to support the 10th edition of the MUTEK Festival," said Minister Moore. "Since its creation, this festival has made its mark thanks to its bold, avant-garde programming and has since become an event not to be missed, for both the artists and Montréal audiences alike."
"It is through cultural events, such as this one, that societies express themselves. Quebecers are culturally vibrant and diverse, which can be seen by the sheer number and variety of festivals that take place not only in Montréal but across the province," said Minister Paradis. "As Minister responsible for Montréal, I am proud that our Government supports events that not only promote Quebec's vibrant culture but stimulate local economies and create jobs."
"The Government of Canada is supporting MUTEK in its organizational development and is helping make our 10th edition a unique and extraordinary event," said Alain Mongeau, Artistic Director of the Festival.
The internationally recognized MUTEK Festival is dedicated to the promotion and development of electronic music and sound creation in the era of digital technology and new media. Its mission is to raise awareness among audiences, as well as to serve as a springboard for the most original and visionary artists in the field of electronic music.
The Government of Canada has provided funding of $25,500 under the Arts Presentation Canada Program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentation of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
