KELOWNA, British Columbia, May 27, 2009 - On behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, Ron Cannan, Member of Parliament (Kelowna-Lake Country), today announced funding for the Chamber Music Kelowna Society.
This funding will support the 30th annual Classical Music Concert Series. This year's lineup of performers will feature renowned musicians from Canada, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. Outreach activities include pre-show chats, school concerts, master classes, and workshops.
"The Chamber Music Kelowna Society makes an outstanding contribution to the region's cultural vitality, and we are proud to support it," said Minister Moore.
"I am proud of the arts and culture organizations in Kelowna-Lake Country," said Mr. Cannan. "Their efforts make our community more vibrant and provide our citizens with access to some of the world's best performers and artists. I am pleased that our Government continues to recognize the importance of arts and culture at the community level by supporting the efforts of organizations like the Chamber Music Kelowna Society."
"Thanks to annual grants received from the Government of Canada, Chamber Music Kelowna is able to offer quality chamber music to enthusiastic audiences in sold-out houses and, most importantly, to expand our youth outreach into the community through school concerts, workshops, and master classes," said Brian Hobbs, President, Chamber Music Kelowna. "This coming year, Chamber Music Kelowna's 30th anniversary season will see expanded programming, additional concerts, and increased outreach to the community."
The Chamber Music Kelowna Society is a non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to presenting world-class chamber music to audiences in Kelowna and the surrounding area.
The Government of Canada has provided $8,000 in funding through the Arts Presentation Canada program of the Department of Canadian Heritage. This program gives Canadians increased access to the diversity and richness of Canada's culture through professional arts festivals, presentations of live professional performances, and other artistic experiences.
