Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that he will travel to Prague, Czech Republic, to participate in the Canada-European Union (EU) Summit taking place on May 6, 2009.
The Canada-EU Summit this year will focus on continuing efforts to address international financial challenges, economic partnership, climate change and the environment, energy and sustainability, and international peace and security.
"I look forward to participating in this important summit which will deepen Canada's strategic partnership with the European Union," said the Prime Minister. "Given the serious challenges facing the world economy, it is more important than ever for Canada to work with its European partners in identifying and implementing solutions that will help people on both sides of the Atlantic."
During the Canada-EU Summit, the Prime Minister will meet with Czech Prime Minister Mirek Topolánek, current President of the European Council, and with the President of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso.
The Prime Minister will also discuss bilateral issues in a separate meeting with Prime Minister Topolánek and Václav Klaus, President of the Czech Republic.
