OTTAWA, May 25, 2009 - For over a decade, the annual Gala Les Olivier has reminded us that the comedy industry is alive and well. In addition to contributing to the growth of our cultural sector, this major celebration of laughter honours some of the most talented writers, directors, and comedians and promotes emerging artists.
On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all those who brought home an Olivier this year. I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge members of the Association des professionnels de l'industrie de l'humour who, through the Gala Les Olivier, effectively highlight the artists and artisans whose work in the comedy and humour sector contribute to the vitality of our cultural scene.
