Employment Insurance, April 2009
In April, 697,000 people received regular Employment Insurance benefits, up 18,600 from a month earlier. This 2.7% increase was the smallest in six months.
National balance sheet accounts, first quarter 2009
Household net worth declined by $72 billion (-1.3%) in the first quarter of 2009, a much slower rate of decline than in the last two quarters of 2008 during which cumulative losses totalled $438 billion.
Canada's international transactions in securities, April 2009
Non-residents continued their strong acquisitions of Canadian securities in April by adding a further $9.0 billion to their portfolios, mainly stocks and government debt instruments. Meanwhile, Canadian investment in foreign securities slowed to $1.3 billion with acquisitions comprised of non-US securities.
