The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) is making available $150,000 under its Participant Funding Program to assist groups or individuals in participating in the environmental assessment of the proposed Darlington New Nuclear Power Plant Project, located at the existing Darlington Nuclear site in the Municipality of Clarington near Oshawa, Ontario.
This funding is being made available to help successful applicants review the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) that will be prepared by the proponent. The funding may also be used to prepare for and participate in the public hearings that will be announced at a later date by the panel.
A Funding Review Committee, independent of the environmental assessment process, will consider all applications and make a recommendation on the allocation of funds. Applications received by the Agency by July 20, 2009 will be considered.
Ontario Power Generation is proposing the site preparation, construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of up to four new nuclear reactors at its existing Darlington Nuclear site located near Oshawa, Ontario, along the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the Municipality of Clarington.
