Lynn Lake, Manitoba
The Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification and the Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board, announced Harper Government support to help the Town of Lynn Lake strengthen economic opportunities.
"Our Government is committed to the quick delivery of funding to projects that help create jobs and maintain employment in affected western communities. Today we are delivering on that commitment," said Minister of State Yelich. "Investing in projects like this one will help Lynn Lake withstand the current economic downturn."
"Our Government is taking action to ensure communities succeed during the economic slowdown," said Minister Toews. "Today's announcement will help our region emerge from this challenging time, prosperous and stronger than ever."
This tourism initiative will market the restored sport fishing amenities of Lynn Lake internationally and attract new business. The project will reinvigorate the local tourism economy based on key natural resources like sport fishing.
Federal funding of over $233,600 is being provided by Western Economic Diversification Canada under the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF).
"The sport fishing in Lynn Lake is paradise with the catch of your life," said Wayne Riley, Community Economic Development Officer for the Town of Lynn Lake. "This project creates much needed jobs for our residents and brings the whole community together for a true adventure in the sport fishing capital of Manitoba."
A part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the Community Adjustment Fund is an investment of $1-billion in local economies throughout Canada to create jobs and maintain employment in our communities.
The fund will provide $306-million over two years to support the most affected western Canadian communities, such as those that are heavily reliant on resource-based industries, for instance forestry, mining, agriculture and fisheries, and communities that depend on the manufacturing industry. Western Economic Diversification Canada (WD) is delivering the fund in the four western provinces.
