We are delighted that Mr. Bannon will contribute his valuable expertise to this Board, said Minister Strahl. In addition to Mr. Bannons experience with various other environmental impact boards and working groups, his active leadership in the community and extensive experience in northern issues will be a great asset to the work of the Board.
Mr. Bannon has over 30 years of public service experience in resource and environmental management, technical evaluation and impact assessment as well as experience in policy matters related to Aboriginal and intergovernmental affairs. He has served on the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board Working Group and retired in 2007 as Executive Director, Office of Devolution of the Government of the Northwest Territories. He has lived in various northern communities over the past 33 years.
The Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board carries out environmental assessments and environmental impact reviews in the Mackenzie Valley of the Northwest Territories. These measures help protect the environment and enhance the social, economic and cultural well-being of Mackenzie Valley residents and of all Canadians. The board provides Northerners with a vehicle to participate in the environmental assessment decision-making process.
Mr. Bannons appointment is effective May 25, 2009 for a period of three years. Biographical notes are attached.
