OTTAWA - The Honourable Peter MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, issued the following statement today:
“I want to wish a fantastic Canada Day to all Canadian Forces men, women and their families. They stand on guard for us everyday, demonstrating a commitment to our country and our shared values of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights and the rule of law.
Canadians can take a special pride in our soldiers, airmen, airwomen and sailors deployed in dangerous locations around the world and are appreciative of the sacrifices, being made by them and their families on our behalf.
I also want to wish a Happy Canada Day to the dedicated civilian, Rangers and Junior Rangers personnel who work tirelessly across Canada for the Department of National Defence. Together they ensure that we continue to live in the best country in the world.
Today, from coast to coast to coast, let’s celebrate our Canada and take time to remember those who came before us to build this great country and protect it and thank those who continue to keep it safe.
I am proud to serve with those who serve!
Happy Canada Day, everyone!”
