Canadian and U.S. officials participating in the second joint survey of the extended continental shelf will hold a technical briefing in Washington, D.C., on July 28, 2009, to discuss the upcoming mission in the Arctic.
Canadian officials will participate by telephone, and will include the two leading scientists on the survey from Natural Resources Canada’s Arctic research program, as well as representatives from Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada. U.S. officials participating from Washington will include senior representatives of the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and the U.S. Department of the Interior. Senior officials from the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Coast Guard, and scientists from the University of New Hampshire will also join the press conference via telephone.

To attend, media representatives must present one of the following: a U.S. government-issued identification card (Department of State, White House, Congress, Department of Defense, or Foreign Press Center), a media-issued photo identification card, or a letter from their employer on letterhead verifying their employment as a journalist and an official photo identification (driver’s licence or passport).
